Maple Bay on Vancouver Island, in the 80's, accessible only by boat, was a favourite anchorage of the Farrells while living on board the China Cloud. A 42 foot three-masted Chinese junk rig was the last major boat built by Allen Farrell completely by hand. Gerry Fossum was given the China Cloud before Allen passed away, and has her tied to a private dock near Esquimalt, B.C.

Allen Farrell's favourite of all of his paintings, is Sharie in the garden on Lasqueti Island. In the late 70's, while homesteading on the island, Allen and Sharie built a hand made house and hauled many wheelbarrow loads of seaweed from beach to the garden some distance up the road.

In the late 80's, Allen painted his son Keray and daughter Lisa, son Dave, and granddaughter Chelsea. The Carloda N. an ex-fish packer built in 1936, was anchored at Wolf Island close to Lasqueti Island.

China Cloud 40 feet by 10 feet by 2 foot 10 inches, was Allen Farrell's own design, and hand built by both Allen and his wife Sharie in Scotty Bay on Lasqueti Island. Launched in 1982, without an engine, she sails single-handed from the cockpit. A single large sculling oat moves her when the wind dies.
